Philosophical Project: The Philosophy and Science of Morality
Module leaders: Prof Shaun Nichols; Dr Luca Barlassina
(Spring Semester 2023. This is an individual-study module for Sheffield Level-3 students in Philosophy only).
For most of the 20th century, moral philosophy and experimental psychology were conducted separately. In the last two decades, however, philosophers and psychologists have started working together in order to address questions about the moral mind. This collaboration has proven to be quite fruitful. In this module, students will explore how many traditional philosophical debates about morality are illuminated by current work in psychology, and how philosophical theories can inform and guide new empirical research.
