Since 1992, the Centre has run a number of major interdisciplinary projects involving a series of workshops over one or more years, and one or more major international conferences. Workshops are for staff, research students, and invited participants. But the international conferences are open to the public.

Past Research Projects

Emotional Bonds: Recent Advances in Affective and Social Cognitive Science (2019)
This one-year interdisciplinary research project and event series focused on the "social-affective turn" in the cognitive sciences.

Implicit Bias and Philosophy (2011 - 2013)
A two-year interdisciplinary research project bringing together philosophers and psychologists to study implicit bias.

AHRC Culture and the Mind (2006 - 2011)
This five-year interdisciplinary research project aimed at investigating the impact of culture on the mind and the cognitive evolutionary foundations of culture.

AHRC Innateness and the Structure of the Mind (2001 - 2004)
This three-year project brought together many of the top researchers in philosophy and cognitive science to undertake a comprehensive assessment of rationalist or nativist theorising regarding the origins of mind and to determine what directions future research should take.

The Cognitive Basis of Science (1998 - 2000)
This two-year project concerned the features of the mind that underpin and facilitate the development and conduct of science. A series of workshops culminated in an interdisciplinary international conference on which an edited volume was based.

Evolution and the Human Mind: Modularity, Language, and Meta-Cognition (1996 - 1998)
This two-year project examined the relation between evolution and the mind with a particular focus how evolution might illuminate the basic architecture of the human mind. A series of workshops culminated in an interdisciplinary international conference on which an edited volume was based.

Language and Thought: Interdisciplinary Themes (1994 - 1996)
This two-year project explored the relations between language and thought. A series of workshops culminated in an interdisciplinary international conference on which an edited volume was based.

Theories of Theories of Mind (1992 - 1994)
This two-year project concerned the features of the mind that underpin our abilities to understand the thoughts, feelings and intentions of others. A series of workshops culminated in an interdisciplinary international conference on which an edited volume was based.
